DJHDD - I Am Bent : Sound Paintings

This (46mg) ambient DJ mix was inspired by by DJ Food's Raiding the 20th Century and Paul Morley's book "Words and Music". The premise for this mix was the everyday ambient noise around us, traffic, planes, trains, environmental field recordings. It then morped into the history of music, life, death, philosophy & ultimately onto academic wanking. I used the jasonfreeman.net metamix program to achieve some of the palindromes & other sounds were time stretched to infinity. There are way to many samples to list & some like paint itself, have blended into it's own colour. Some of these samples are so far in the background they are indistinguishable. Like for instance Steve Reich's Music for 18 musicians has blended so much into the Diga Rhythm Band & Deodato's 2001, that you need to strain your ears to hear the one lone marimba player, who keeps hitting the same note over & over. In another painting the Autobahn gets congested, not with traffic, but with all 3 bands, playing the seminal Kraftwerk track at the same time. Brian Eno is painted backwards to become One in Music 4 Modern Elevators & time becomes a loop before exploding into a small history of modern music. This radio play aired on Sydneys 2MBS FM 7th July 2005.
